A Breton High Back Carved Oak Box Settle

The Settle is intricately carved, the back has a very jolly scene in the centre panel, it is set outside a hostelry and shows a a young lady seeing off a gentleman who seems to have had rather too much to drink he is sitting back to front on his horse. There is a Breton wheel of life on the top of the bench and on either side of the centre carving
The box section of the settle has 4 panels carved with heads on the front, and there is also carving on the top of the seat, the sides and a very deeply carved plinth at the floor
Taking into consideration the age of this piece it is in very good condition, the plinth at the base has minor chipping at the back, a wonderful piece with excellent patina

The settle is 58” high at the back and 60” wide, it is 19” deep, and the seat is 22” high

The bench is a real country piece with Shepherd’s crook arms and pad feet, unusually the settle is an upholstered piece, it has blacksmith made iron slats, and it comes with its original horse hair cushion, which has been recently re covered
Taking into consideration the age of this piece it is in splendid condition and the upholstery will be new

The settle is 43” high at the back and 75” wide, it is 25” deep, the seat is 19” deep and 18” high

This is a late Georgian piece, the legs are turned, it has stretchers all the way around, these are well worn with a super patina. The top has a moulded edge and if you look closely you can see where the top has been fixed with hand made nails
The stool is in good condition for its age with no wood worm

This a difficult piece to find, it has been reclaimed during renovations, the deep sprung seat is shaped to fit a Bay Window. It Stands on Cabriole legs, (flat back legs) and has been recently covered in a patterned Chenille with brass studs around the edge and is in very good condition
The Stool is 49” long at the back and 59” long at the front, the stool is 18” deep back to front and the seat height is 17”

An 17th Century High Back Inlaid Oak Marriage Settle

This is a stunning piece, the whole settle is carved with Coates of Arms, all best explained from the carving on the front.
It is dated 1661 and the names of Henry Graye and Dorothy Graye are carved on either side, this was no doubt a piece made to commemorate their marriage and the joining of 2 great families.

The Settle has 6 intricately carved back panels and an intricate top rail, in the centre of which we have the entwined initials of H.D.G, these are repeated at the side, 2 other panels show the family Coates of Arms and below 4 large panels declaring the giving of Service to the King, the top of the side pillars are carved with kings heads

The panels are bordered with chevron inlay in Ebony and Box Wood
The bench has an opening seat and Shepherd’s crook arms
The Settle is it is in very good condition considering it is nearly 4 hundred years old, and it is a superb looking piece
The settle is 60” high at the back and 53” wide, it is 24” deep

This is an Old and very rare 17th Century bacon Settle.
The settle has delight fully shaped side which forms the arm rest, the box base has double doors and inside there is a drain hole at the bottom.
The bacon cupboard in the back of the settle has 2 panelled doors and comes complete with the original blacksmith made iron bacon hooks still in place
The cupboard has removable shelves so that it can be used as storage when there is no bacon to hang
This piece it is in good restored condition and very usable.
The settle is 69” high at the back and 46” wide, it is 25” deep, the seat height is 22"

This high back settle dates from about 1790, the back of the seat has carved panels depicting many different mythical beasts mostly dragons and serpents, the whole seat of the settle opens up for storage
The arm rests of the bench have carved scroll shaped arms, it is a superb piece, the quality of the carving is superb and the condition is good with a fine patina

The settle is 56” high at the back and 47” wide and it is 20” deep

This superb chair has 2 intricately carved panels decorated with flowers and fruits, these date from the 18th Century. The panels have been built in to the settle during the early part of the 19th Century, one in the back and the other at the floor. The settle has a high back, the top with a crown carved into the top rail, and carved arms, this carving is also of very fine quality

The wainscot has a wonderful stand alone throne like quality and would make a superb Hall settle where space might be an issue the seat opens for storage and it is in very good condition
The settle is 53” high at the back and 27” wide, it is 24” deep

These superb Joint or Joined Stools were originally intended to be used in the family home at sad time of a funeral, they would have been placed at either end to support the coffin for the family, friends and servants to pay their last respects to the deceased

These are a wonderful pair of stools, slightly faded in colour but with a lovely patina, the edges of the stools are slightly misshaped where the edges have been worn away with constant use, they make great occasional stools, or even small side tables

The bench is a beautifully carved piece and may have been especially commissioned, and it is in very good condition

The bench is a real French country piece with well worn smooth arms and a good patina

All in all this is piece is in fair condition considering its great age there are old repairs as you would expect, it has been attacked by wood worm, this has been treated but it has left scars on the back and floor
